Course Descrptions

  • Disaster Assessment Workshop The purpose of this workshop is to provide participants with the knowledge needed to quickly and accurately conduct damage assessment following disasters.
  • Health Services Response Workshop The purpose of this workshop is to prepare licensed or certified health professionals to either work in their local chapter jurisdiction or be deployed to a Red Cross disaster relief operation and function as health professionals within the Health Services Protocols.
  • Emergency Response Vehicle (ERV): Ready, Set, Roll The purpose if this course is to prepare Red Cross paid and volunteer staff safely and effectively use an emergency response vehicle (ERV) and its equipment to meet feeding and other service needs of the people affected by disaster.
  • Client Casework: Providing Emergency Assistance The purpose of this course is to introduce you to the Family Services function. You will learn the skills and tools needed to conduct an effective client interview and provide assistance.
  • Fulfilling Our Mission The purpose of this course is to enable participants to translate their care and compassion into community action through a uniform message. Participants will be able to assess how to use their skills and abilities to strengthen the capacity of both the community and the Red Cross to better serve people affected by disaster. Participants will understand the mission, the principles, value and expected behaviors of Red Cross volunteers and employees in the conduct of the Red Cross mission. This class is a pre-requisite for all disaster classes.
  • Logistics: An Overview The purpose if this training is to provide basic information about the activities and processes of the Logistics function in support of an American Red Cross disaster relief operation. Participants will learn about the skills, abilities, and knowledge needed by Logistics workers and how they can get started in their local chapter.
  • Mass Care: An Overview The purpose of this course is to provide an overview of the activities (sheltering and feeding) performed by the community services group in support of a disaster relief operation.
  • Shelter Operations The purpose of this course is to prepare Red Cross staff to effectively and sensitively manage shelter operations as a team, to meet the needs displaced as a result of a disaster.
  • Shelter Simulation The purpose of this training is to provide participants an opportunity to practice the knowledge and skills needed to run a successful shelter operation.
  • Shelter Management The purpose of this workshop is to provide potential shelter managers with the skills and practices needed to effectively manage a shelter.
